Darpan is a women-led voluntary organization registered under the Indian Trusts Act, 1882, on 15 December 1998. Based in Hazaribag, Jharkhand, the organization began by addressing women’s rights, gender equality, and gender-based violence and discrimination.
Since 2008, Darpan has expanded its focus to children’s rights and gender equality, with child protection becoming a key area of work from 2015. Today, Darpan works to strengthen the rights and entitlements of women, men, youth, and children, particularly girls and vulnerable communities.
The organization works through Gram Sabha empowerment, youth empowerment, social security schemes, local governance, and community participation. Darpan also works to challenge harmful social norms, promote gender equality, strengthen implementation of laws and policies, and protect children’s rights. Its work is supported through government, CSR, and other funding sources.
